Photographs Telling a Story
I’m sure there are many of you out there who take plenty of photographs while on vacation. True this wasn’t a family vacation but a conference like this is full of fun and friends. I thought I would try something a little different and share some of the photographs from the conference. So let’s take a trip down memory lane at the FGS conference in Pittsburgh.
It all started with a train ride, I would encourage everyone to give it a try. Not only can you relax without worry, but you also have room to spread out. The biggest plus would be the views. When riding through the countryside, the history you see out the windows can be breathtaking. Riding over bridges with streams of cold water running under them. Large rock bluffs on the left and a small town on the right. Okay yes, those of you who travel in the city might not agree to take a longer ride across the county. I don’t know about you but I’ve never heard of the “World Famous Horseshoe Curve“. But now I can say I’ve seen it.
One of the most popular condiment companies has a factory in Pittsburgh. How many of you have ever heard of Heinz? No, not a mixed mutt but I’m talking ketchup, mustard and even a hot dog must, pickle relish. I also got to see the Heinz Field for the NFL Pittsburgh Steelers. I know, those who know me know I’m a Kansas City Chiefs fan at heart, don’t worry that hasn’t changed. It was interesting to learn the boat we were on is used to shuttle fans to the stadium. I can only imagine how much fun is had along the river when they play.
Now I don’t want to leave out the Pittsburgh Pirates and their PNC Stadium. It was also along the banks of the Allegheny River. It’s only a 10-minute walk from Heinz Field. I didn’t realize what the brightly multi-colored building was, it was lit up in a way you couldn’t miss. It turns out it's the Rivers Casino along the Ohio River. So, if sports aren’t your thing then you could always visit the casino. No, I’m not advocating gambling it was just a brightly lit building. I missed the opportunity to snap a picture of the Carnegie Science Center that sits along the same bank. You can’t miss it because it looks to have a large cone sitting on top of the building.
One of the best parts of a convention like this, friends and fun. You can meet with old friends, catch up both personally and professionally. This is also a great time to meet new people, make new friends and get some networking in. If you have ever attended a conference like this you would know that it’s not all work and no play.

The conference ended with a 5 a.m. train ride back home. Yeah, that’s right I arrived on a train and departed in one. I hope to see many more of you at future conferences.
