Road Trip Find
On a recent trip to discover more about myself and enjoy some time with a friend we hit the road. While finding some nature and pieces of history along the way we visited a small town Wurtsboro in New York. It might appear small but there are some interesting places to visit and people to meet along the way. Most small communities have a dedication to the Veterans in their community but this one, in particular, caught my eye. Most of all unique entrance and shaded area on a warm summer day helped.
Along the walking paths, you will find many different-sized bricks with dedications for loved ones who have passed. Some with a thank you to community members and even a few to help crack a smile with a giggle. At one point we came upon a quiet gazebo that had one bench sitting inside. Dedicated by Barbara Piper, daughter of Walter Lowerre. It turns out that Mr. Lowerre was a very active member of the community and loved by many. Born in 1913 in the town of Middletown, New York, and passed away in 2007 in the same town. Walter was a Captain of the Circleville Fire Police and the last charter member of the Fire Department.
Sullivan County
After returning home and sitting down to put together this post I realized that I should have done a little extra research before heading that way. It turns out that many of the oldest settlers in Sullivan County were occupants of this small community and are buried in Stanton Cemetery and many researchers visit that cemetery. If I’ve said it once I’ve said a thousand times that I enjoy visiting the cemeteries, they hold some information that might be missed in your typical research.
