Reality of Witches
An old woman, Jane Wenbam by name, was tried for witchcraft
at the Hertford assizes in England, in the year 1712. The judge, who presided
at the trial, wishing to save her life, told the jury that some young women
unquestionably possessed the powers of witchcraft; but he believed that they
always lost those magical powers when they grew old.
